Cinzano Rosso Vermouth
Two brothers, Giovanni Giacomo and Carlo Stefano Cinzano created a new ‘vermouth rosso’ (red vermouth) in 1757 using Italian red wine, sugar and alcohol infused with aromatic plants from the Italian Alps in a still-secret recipe combining 35 ingredients. The vermouth became known as the “vermouth of Turin”. Working side by side on the family’s vineyards in Pecetto (nestled in the hills of Torino, Piedmont, Italy), the brothers combined the family’s winemaking heritage with tenacity to establish the timeless qualities at the heart of Cinzano vermouth.
Cinzano Rosso is the original of Cinzano’s vermouth portfolio. On the nose, it is an aromatic mix of vanilla and black cherry, with a hint of creamy caramel. The flavor is smooth, with a subtle hint of initial sweetness, opening to spices (nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon) and complex bitterness, before a botanical finish.
Perfect for mixing in a Negroni or Manhattan.
Today, Cinzano is used around the world, and the vermouth trend is growing quickly, especially among bartenders. Classic cocktails are having a resurgence and the new wave of bartenders turn to vermouth in an effort to revisit classic recipes.
The phrase ‘chin chin’ originated from a Cinzano advertising campaign, where Rita Pavone starred with the jingle ‘Cin cin Cinzoda / una voglia da morir. . . . .’ or Cheers cheers Cinzoda / to die for. . . . .’
